Rakhine Government receives US Senate Committee member

The Rakhine State Government received a US delegation, led by Charlotte B. Oldham-Moore, senior professional staff member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, at the State Government’s office in Rakhine State on 4 April.

They discussed matters related to the resettlement of returnees, the status of preparation at the reception and transit centers for the returnees, international aid for reconstruction works, monthly trips for gathering information by local and foreign media to Maungtaw region, the construction of houses for people in the IDP camps, and the aid provided by the United Nations (UN) and the international non-governmental organizations (INGO) in the state.

The US delegation also met with representatives of political parties, officials from the UN and INGO, and Muslims in Thet Kal Pyin Village and Aung Mingalar Ward.

New homes, support for Muslims
Maungtaw, April 03

The Maungtaw Township administrator presented new houses, food and utensils to 22 Muslim households, who did not flee their homes during the incident, from Pantawpyin Village Tract, Ywathit Village in the Maungtaw region, on 4 April. As Pantawpyin Village had been burnt in a terror incident, the government cleared the land and the Yangon Region government constructed 22 new houses.

Cash aid provided for pregnant women, children in Maungtaw
Maungtaw, April 03

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement has provided Ks. 90,000 for six months to each expecting woman and children below two years in Maungtaw starting from 3 April.

Under the MCCT programme, the Ministry is contributing cash aid in Rakhine State, Chin State and the Naga self-administered zone. The Ministry is also providing social welfare facilities, especially to vulnerable persons, pregnant women and elderly persons.
