Repatriation & Resettlement Committee holds 5th meeting
Naypyitaw September 17

Committee on Repatriation and Resettlement of Displaced People held its 5th meeting at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement (SWRR) in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

At the meeting, Union Minister for SWRR Dr. Win Myat Aye called for cooperation of the people and representatives of peoples in Rakhine State in solving the Rakhine State issue to cooperate with the authorities, as the government has planned to carry out short-term and long term plans.

And then, the Union Minister said that the government has drawn plans for repatriation under the Myanmar-Bangladesh agreement and stressed the need to discover and deal with the hindrances to repatriation processes. He also highlighted the security sector for the repatriation of returnees. Afterwards, members of the committees concerned participated in the discussion and the meeting ended after resolutions were made.

Discussions held on all-round, socio-economic development in Rakhine State
Naypyitaw September 17

Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe met Ms. Ellen Goldstein, Country Director of World Bank for Myanmar, Cambodia and Lao PDR, at the meeting hall of the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

During the meeting, matters relating to assistance provided by World Bank towards the government setting up and implementing all-round development projects in Rakhine State, successful implementation of peace process and Rakhine State development work processes, status of work conducted under MoU signed between the ministry and UNHCR in the repatriation of returnees from Bangladesh, status of attempts toward socio-economic development and job creation for people in Rakhine State, status of creating investment and skilled workers, ministry’s cooperation with World Bank’s field trip to Rakhine State for rehabilitation and development were discussed.
