UNSG Special Envoy meets with communities in Buthidaung, Maungtaw in Rakhine State

Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener, United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar, accompanied by Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and Rakhine State Minister, arrived at Maungtaw yesterday.
They proceeded to Buthidaung and met with local communities at the Township General Administration office. After the meeting, the UNSG Special Envoy visited Buthidaung Myoma Municipal Market and township People’s Hospital.
The Special Envoy and party also met with local communities at Maungtaw District General Administration Office. At the meeting, Deputy Minister presented cash assistance to women from the Hindu community who lost their family members in the terrorist attack in August 2017. Moreover, they met with Mro ethnic people at Kaigyi Village.
