We stand ready to support the government in implementing the recommendations

A meeting of the Committee for Implementation of Recommendations on Rakhine State, UN agencies and partner organizations was held in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye said the Union Government has formed a central committee and work committees to implement projects to ensure stability and development in Rakhine State. The government also formed a commission to implement the recommendations on Rakhine State and sought advice from it and also established the Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development in Rakhine State (UEHRD) to carry out the development works with participation from local and foreign partners and UN agencies.
He also said that the government is granting citizenship and freedom of movement in accordance with the existing laws of the country, without discrimination. National Verification Cards (NVCs) have been issued to 13,215 people in Rakhine State in accordance with the law. And the authorities are also providing humanitarian aid to people under the Red Cross Movement scheme.
For repatriation of the displaced people from Rakhine State, measures are being taken to cooperate not only with UN agencies but also with the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre). For the socio-economic development of local people, the
Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone and the deep seaport project are being implemented, and efforts are being made to start a cash-for-work program, he said.
During the discussion, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Knut Ostby said, “I would like to recognize the Government and the Committee for its commitment to prioritize the recommendations. Allow me to assure you that we stand ready to support the government in implementing the recommendations.”
