ASEAN Sec-Gen said he is very glad for the trust placed on ASEAN by the Myanmar government

A coordination meeting of high-level officials for discussing ASEAN cooperation in receiving returnees in Rakhine State was held between the office of the ASEAN Secretary-General and the Myanmar Government at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement yesterday.
In this meeting, Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye said Myanmar was consistently striving for the stability and development of Rakhine State. The Advisory Commission on Rakhine State has already been formed and that they were doing their best for implementation of the suggestions. He also expressed his wish for the undertakings to be objective, and added that this cooperation would support not only for the activities of the Red Cross but also for the trilateral MoU signed between the Myanmar Government, UNDP and UNHCR. Furthermore, he said this undertaking would support the implementation of the agreements between Myanmar and Bangladesh. It is an important collaboration for not only countries in the region but also for the international community because it would be an example of cooperation with ASEAN countries.
Afterwards, Secretary-General of ASEAN Mr. Lim Jock Hoi said he was very glad for the trust placed on ASEAN by the Myanmar government. Needs assessments based on the ASEAN-Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ASEAN- ERAT) Guidelines would be conducted in accordance with the host country’s rules and regulations, prioritized processes, and protocols.
